Just a quick update this time…. currently planning some exciting work related adventures and possible collaborations. In the meantime here is the cover of Fashion Forward Magazine that I shot.

I’ve shot several promo’s for The Smoking Hearts, and always enjoyed it, so I was more than happy to accept the commission of shooting the cover for their latest record.
I might be a little biased about this record, as I was one of the people drafted in to record the gang vocal parts on the song ‘sinking ships’, either way I recommend you check it out. The band’s press release sums it up pretty well….

“Graceful is definitely not a word to describe THE SMOKING HEARTS. Their live Shows have seen guitars smashed and drum kits sprawled across stages and it is not uncommon to find half the band playing in the crowd while singer Ben Mills is in the back of the venue, on the bar or hanging from the rafters, all while coercing the crowd into joining the party.”

The band also worked on a limited edition hot sauce as part of the launch campaign… and reading the ingredients list alone terrifies me as to the potency of it’s contents! We will be trying it out soon with some home cooking, with me taking a certain amount of pride in the knowledge that this is my first food product label commission ;)

Anna Kostina is an avant-garde costume and fashion designer based in London. Since 2007 she designs costumes for performance under her label ANA. Combining fashion/costume design and art stands in the focus of her work. The majority of her clients are seeking bespoke one-off pieces to use with their teams of performers, dancers and other artists. According to the concept ANA designs artistically expressive costumes to achieve the desired effect of the performance. It is her goal to create a fantasy world and take the audience on an unforgettable journey.

This is one of my favourite shots from the portrait session I had with Conor Maynard, as it’s a different angle to the way he is usually captured by photographers. It’s good to see Shout magazine going for something different.

The majority of my personal work involves performance artists or fine artists. Not just do I enjoy the process of working with these artists on our collaborations, but I also find it helps keep my work and ideas fresh by balancing out my editorial and commercial briefs. Previous collaborations have been with  Catlin guide endorsed Leah Capaldi and the world renowned artist Franko B to name a few. In January I worked with newcomer MKLK on a documentation entitled ‘Abject Fragment Devine‘. Below is the artist’s synopsis of the piece.

” Abject Fragment Devine gravitates around modesty, and the social-political constricts within femininity; through exploring the institution of womanhood, and visually questioning culturally prescribed behaviours around the visibly feminine (and its veil of promiscuity). I aim to penetrate patriarchy, whilst filtering and reconceptualising the marriage between seclusion and subordination of women within today’s contemporary society. ”
